Abstract: This paper investigates the link between HRM and the efforts being made by airlines to green their operations. Pilots are key actors in the achievement of these objectives and have significant opportunities to support or thwart these greening efforts. The paper argues that HR has an important role to play in engaging pilots via indirect strategies to increase job satisfaction and involvement as well as vis direct strategies to train pilots in green perfromance measures. However, HR faces significant challenges in this venture from the wider context in which the airlines are currently operating in.
