Item Description: This article represents a first attempt at using a material model that captures statistical property variation to predict the failure probability by cracking in a powder compacted part. Failure in the powder compaction process is extremely difficult to model as the material response is density dependent and where cracking occurs this is usually associated with a dilation mechanism. This paper shows how a statistical model may be used to predict such failure, including accounting for material variation.
