Abstract: In this paper, a novel photovoltaic (PV) emulator based on an indoor solar panel and dc power supply is proposed for testing maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms and PV inverters. Based on the proposed emulator, repeatable test conditions can be easily set up with the proposed PV emulator without dependency on weather conditions. Furthermore, the proposed PV emulator avoids the bandwidth problem associated with the dc converter based PV emulators. The proposed PV emulator was also presented in PVSAT-9 conference, Solar Energy UK event, 2014 and led to an award of ERDF grant.
