Abstract: |
Lipidomics can be regarded as the determination of the quantitative lipid profile of a cell type, tissue or biological fluid. Mass spectrometry has become the dominant analytical technique in lipidomics. Here we will discuss the developments in mass spectrometry-based lipidomics, highlighting methods based on shotgun-lipidomics, gas-chromatography - mass spectrometry and liquid-chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry. Examples will be given from the current literature and the authors own work. The importance of suitable sample preparation methods will also be emphasised. |
