Abstract: The article lloks at vocabulary resources available to adult learners of Welsh and presents a research project undertaken at Swansea University to formulate A1 and A2 level core vocabularies for Welsh. In the absence of a suitable corpus, the methodology employed offers a successful model which could be replicated by other Celtic language communities to compile similar 'core' vocabularies. Applications for the geirfa graidd [core vocabulary] in the context of Welsh for adults provision are discussed.
