Item Description: This paper was first large-scale study of more than half million Facebook posts for spam and malicious links. An international industry-academic collaboration (with U.S. security specialist company Damballa) made use of innovative Facebook app for large-scale data collection and analysis by machine learning techniques. Impact: study showed significant security risk in online social networks, a public safety concern. Journal is flagship of IEEE Computer Society with highest circulation of any IEEE publication. impact factor: 2.2.
