Abstract: A cell vertex finite volume method, and an ALE formulation, is employed for the simulation of high speed flows on general unstructured meshes. The solution algorithm is parallelised, by use of message passing, to enable large scale simulations to be performed. Adaptivity is emplyed for transient problems involving moving boundary components and, to account for the boundary motion, the mesh is adapted, in parallel, by using a combination of mesh movement and local mesh regeneration. Examples are included which demonstrate the level of computational performance that may be achieved with the approach.
