Item Description: The key airworthiness requirements for aircraft are all based upon aeroelastic effects, which are currently taken as deterministic. Funded by the European Union's 6th Framework Project, this paper presents how uncertainty can be represented and propagated through high fidelity aeroelastic simulations of aircraft. For this purpose, a formulation based on reduction of the system Jacobian matrix is used to perform non-deterministic analysis very efficiently through the use of an approximate Newton solver. It is also shown that structural variability can have significant influences on flutter speed/altitude and should therefore be included in aircraft certification.
