Item Description: It is shown that the critical temperature for the deconfinement phase transition in SU(N) gauge theories varies smoothly as a function of 1/N, in agreement with large-N arguments. The critical temperature is derived for generic N. The transition is first order for N>2, with strength increasing with N.
