Item Description: Conventionally, bacteria and zooplankton are portrayed as disparate functional groups only weakly and indirectly linked via nutrient cycling and trophic cascade. This study shows that by hitch-hiking on zooplankton, bacteria can travel over long distances and across physical barriers that are otherwise impenetrable to them. This has important implications for bacterial survival and diversity maintenance, and pathogen dispersal in the environment.
