Item Description: The general formulae presented in this paper are of particular relevance to finite element procedures for the solution of solid mechanics problems involving isotropic constitutive models, where they allow an efficient treatment of the problem linearisation. These formulae are currently implemented in the chief commercial Finite Element Analysis package of Rockfield Software (J. Rance, j.rance@rockfield.co.uk) in solution procedures for isotropic hyperelastic and elasto-plastic solids.
