This paper clearly describes the application of the elastic compensation method to the estimation of upper and lower bound limit and shakedown loads, including details of the procedure to be adopted when advanced non-linear FE analysis is used. This is the first time that such a comprehensive account of the methodology has been provided, including an example of its application showing good agreement between the limit and shakedown pressure bound estimates. Dr Pipelzadeh was supported in this work through funding from a series of KTP programmes. |
