Item Description:	This work, which forms part of the PhD thesis of the first author, was funded by an EPSRC project (GR/R34936/01) and rated as 'Outstanding' in collaboration with Ford UK, Corus and MIRA. The project was one of a pair of linked projects with Liverpool University. The overall objective was to gain an understanding of the variability in the dynamics of nominally identical structures. Within the context of spot welds, the sensitivity of the variations of the important factors - location and size, were defined.
