Abstract: The use of DEM to model the charging of a blast furnace is investigated. A force model incorporating twisting and bending is included in the code specifically to enable simulation of static piles of material. The model has been validated against specific experiments deliberately challenging for both static and dynamic behaviours in granular flow. Simulation of a full size blast furnace domain including a complex rotating chute is shown. A simplified output aimed at blast furnace operators is also described.
