The security as well as insecurity of cyber-physical systems have been studied extensively. Observing that cyber-physical systems are an instance of the networked systems, it is claimed that security concepts can be defined for all systems that can be described as graphs. After introducing the agent-based modeling of general networks and the associated security aspects, the notion of cyber-physical systems is extended to cyber-social systems with a particular attention to social networks and their security vulnerabilities and threats. The Barabási-Albert model of scale-free networks and the Watts-Strogatz small-world network model are used to illustrate their information vulnerabilities which allow the rogue nodes to improve their network centrality. Finally, possible future research directions are outlined. |
