Abstract: |
This chapter discusses the 'historical vignettes' included in Aineias Tacticus' Poliorketika. I survey the way in which historical information is placed in its topographical and chronological context (or not), how the narratives are constructed, and how these short narratives are used as an integral part of didactic writing. Aineias was still experimenting with the military manual, and we see crucial aspects of the genre emerging in his work. |
