Abstract: The Essex Law Clinic was launched in 2008 but recently a decision has been taken toexpand it. The intention has been to involve the students fully in this expansion andthey have been encouraged to think creatively about how the Clinic can most effectivelydeliver its services. As a result, they have been involved in an ongoing project which will map legal needinitially in the vicinity of the university but over time the exercise will include the wholeof the county of Essex. The project draws on the fact that the students are ‘digitalnatives’ and will have the necessary creativity to devise new solutions for meetingcurrently unmet legal need.Qualitative assessments will be made of the data which is produced to identify legaladvice desserts. It also will provide information on the effect of civil legal aid cutsintroduced in April 2013.
