Abstract: In the Introduction of the Special Issue of postmedieval dedicated to 'Queer Manuscripts' Diane Watt and I reflect on traditional scholarly traditions used to account for canon formation and textual transmission in the Middle Ages and beyond. We analyse their masculinist underpinnings and, instead, put forward a new and field-changing methodology, which we term 'queer philology, based on queer, and specifically lesbian and trans theory.
