Item Description: This well cited paper is the latest of three papers in a series of developments from our very first demonstration of colorimetric luminescence sensors in 2006, and shows how knowledge of material characteristics can be used to design practical colorimetric luminescent sensors with a very wide range of sensitivities and response characteristics for a variety of applications. The method hold potential for simple sensor devices which can be read both visually and instrumentally. It was for her PhD work on colorimetric luminescence sensors that Rachel Evans was awarded the 2007 Royal Society of Chemistry Ronald Belcher Prize.
