Item Description: The very first successful application of Photo Acoustic Calorimetry (PAC) to measurement of energy transfer efficiencies into semiconductors, which is the critical step in dye sensitised solar cells. An international collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, Coimbra; the idea was proposed by Peter Douglas and brought to fruition by Johann Schabauer and the Coimbra PAC and photochemistry research groups while Schabauer was an ERASMUS student in their labs. The method gives, for the first time, direct experimental determination of energy transfer efficiencies into semiconductor films, which will be invaluable for the evaluation of new dyes and semiconductor materials for solar energy conversion.
