Item Description: Based on molecular dynamics simulation, wrinkling was first observed in the present study for monolayer graphene sheet. An equivalent continuum mechanics models were then employed to ivestigate the physics behind the phenomenon and derive the explicit formulae to identify the major factors controling the structural instability of graphene sheets. The results can facilitate the development of the strain engineering of grapheme sheets, where wrinkling can be used to construct nano-tunnels and tailor the electronic properties of monolayer graphene.
