Abstract: |
Mechanical properties such as Young’s modulus and Poisson’s Ratio of materials are important and usually experimentally extracted separately. We for the first time have designed a new and simple structure that is able to extract these two parameters simultaneously. Analytical equations have been derived and complete experiments were conducted to validate the idea. It is expected in the future to use this method to extract mechanical properties of nanomaterials. |

Item Description: |
Characterisation of material properties for micro/nano structure remains a challenge for international researchers. This paper presents a novel method to simultaneously extract Young's modulus and Poisson’s ratio of a material. This work was supported by a project funded by the Scottish Enterprise.
