Abstract: This chapter describes how the NHS systems of Wales and Scotland developed in the wake of devolution and the creation of national assemblies. It describes shared and divergent aspects of their histories, policy on finance and performance management, and how they coped with the COVID-19 pandemic. The sustainability of the two systems, and how far they remain faithful to to the founding principles of the 1948 NHS are discussed.
