The volume draws upon the outcomes of a recently-completed major research exercise undertaken by network funded by the European Commission-funded Research Network on Men in Europe. It contains contributions by some of Europe's leading scholars in the field. Special emphasis is placed on four key themes: home and work, social exclusion, violences, and health. There is also a particular focus on the fundamental changes taking place in Central and Eastern Europe in the post-socialist period; and to the questions of politics and ethnicity in contemporary Europe. Addressing politics, policy and analysis around men and masculinities in relation to these and other matters is an immensely urgent task not only for European and Trans-European political structures but also for European societies themselves. In the past, masculinity and men's powers and practices were taken for granted. Gender was largely seen as a matter of and for women. This is now changing in the face of rapid but contradictory social change. This book will be essential reading for anyone, whether academic, policymaker, or concerned citizen, who wishes to understand these social processes and their implications for the societies of Europe.
<type>Edited book</type><journal/><volume/><journalNumber/><paginationStart/><paginationEnd/><publisher>Whiting &amp; Birch</publisher><placeOfPublication>London</placeOfPublication><isbnPrint>978-1-86177-042-4</isbnPrint><isbnElectronic/><issnPrint/><issnElectronic/><keywords/><publishedDay>31</publishedDay><publishedMonth>12</publishedMonth><publishedYear>2006</publishedYear><publishedDate>2006-12-31</publishedDate><doi/><url/><notes/><college>COLLEGE NANME</college><department>Media</department><CollegeCode>COLLEGE CODE</CollegeCode><DepartmentCode>AMED</DepartmentCode><institution>Swansea University</institution><apcterm/><funders/><projectreference/><lastEdited>2023-07-11T19:57:49.9622240</lastEdited><Created>2023-07-11T19:43:59.2853781</Created><path><level id="1">Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences</level><level id="2">School of Culture and Communication - Media, Communications, Journalism and PR</level></path><authors><author><firstname>Joanna</firstname><surname>Rydzewska</surname><orcid>0000-0002-9011-6378</orcid><order>1</order></author><author><firstname>Keith</firstname><surname>Pringle</surname><order>2</order></author><author><firstname>Jeff</firstname><surname>Hearn</surname><order>3</order></author><author><firstname>Harry</firstname><surname>Ferguson</surname><order>4</order></author><author><firstname>Dimitar</firstname><surname>Kambourov</surname><order>5</order></author><author><firstname>Voldemar</firstname><surname>Kolga</surname><order>6</order></author><author><firstname>Emi</firstname><surname>Lattu</surname><order>7</order></author><author><firstname>Ursula</firstname><surname>Müller</surname><order>8</order></author><author><firstname>Marie</firstname><surname>Nordberg</surname><order>9</order></author><author><firstname>Irina</firstname><surname>Novikova</surname><order>10</order></author><author><firstname>E.H.</firstname><surname>Oleksy</surname><order>11</order></author><author><firstname>Iva</firstname><surname>Smídová</surname><order>12</order></author><author><firstname>Teemu</firstname><surname>Tallberg</surname><order>13</order></author><author><firstname>Hereto</firstname><surname>Niemi</surname><order>14</order></author></authors><documents/><OutputDurs/></rfc1807>
