This article explores the main components of AI literacy for language educators, structured using the TESOL Technology Standards. It emphasizes foundational knowledge of AI, particularly generative AI, the integration of AI tools into teaching practices, and the use of AI in assessment practices. The importance of continuous professional development and ethical considerations, including biases reproduced by the AI tools from the training data of the LLM, problematic AI outputs and data privacy, are identified as the most relevant aspects for teacher training. AI-literate teachers are essential for ensuring ethical and effective integration into language learning as well as guiding students in the responsible use of AI.
