It is with great pleasure that we present the third volume of Innovation Academy: Innovation Management in Health & Social Care, showcasing the research, innovation projects, and practice-informed work of postgraduate learners from the 2025 cohort of the MSc Advanced Health & Care Management (Innovation & Transformation) programme at Swansea University. Building on the strong foundations established by previous editions, this volume continues to demonstrate the programme’s commitment to developing leaders who are equipped to navigate complexity, drive transformational change, and advance innovation across health and social care systems.The projects presented in this collection reflect the increasingly dynamic and interconnected challenges facing contemporary health and care environments. Across themes including service transformation, workforce innovation, digital integration, system collaboration, population health, and organisational culture, learners critically engage with real-world issues through rigorous academic inquiry and applied practice. The result is a body of work that not only advances scholarly understanding but also offers practical, context-sensitive solutions capable of informing service improvement and strategic development.A defining strength of this volume is its grounding in professional practice. The learners draw directly from their own organisational and sectoral experiences, ensuring that the research presented remains closely connected to operational realities and the needs of patients, communities, and systems. This practice-based approach reflects the core ethos of the Innovation Academy: that meaningful innovation emerges through collaboration, reflective leadership, evidence-informed decision-making, and a sustained commitment to improvement.The work contained within this publication aligns closely with the strategic ambitions set out in A Healthier Wales (Welsh Government, 2018), particularly its emphasis on prevention, integration, person-centred care, and sustainable system transformation. It also supports the priorities outlined in the Innovation Strategy for Wales (Welsh Government, 2023), which champions mission-led innovation, translational research, and cross-sector collaboration to deliver social, economic, and health benefits for Wales. Collectively, these projects contribute to the development of a more resilient, equitable, and innovation-driven health and social care ecosystem.The interdisciplinary nature of the cohort has once again enriched the quality and diversity of perspectives represented within this volume. Learners from health services, social care, public health, life sciences, and wider public service organisations bring a broad range of expertise and lived professional experience to their work. This diversity strengthens knowledge exchange, encourages systems thinking, and reinforces the collaborative culture that underpins the programme.This publication continues to offer value to a broad readership. For academics and researchers, it provides practitioner-led insight into the application of innovation and transformation methodologies in complex care settings. For policymakers and system leaders, it presents grounded evidence and emerging approaches that may inform future service design, workforce planning, and strategic innovation. For students and professionals, it offers accessible examples of inquiry-driven leadership and applied innovation in action.The Innovation Academy Research Series reaffirms the shared commitment of Swansea University and the All-Wales Intensive Learning Academy for Innovation in Health and Social Care to advancing innovation scholarship, promoting open-access knowledge exchange, and supporting research that informs policy, strengthens practice, and contributes to the future sustainability of health and social care systems in Wales and beyond. |
