Abstract: This chapter explored the dynamics of compliance with community penalties in England and Wales. It drew on a study that examined how probation officers and offenders based in an area in Wales interact to secure compliance. Drawing on the study of compliance, the chapter highlighted a range of factors that can affect the nature of compliance. The chapter also explored the policy and other implications of the study’s findings.
