Item Description: |
Current Impact Factor = 2.02. Five year Impact Factor = 1.8.The UK faces a looming energy gap with around 20% of its generating capacity due for closure within the next 15 years. One solution to this problem is to use models for predicting creep life to a. prove that the initial safety factors associated with old plants were unduly high and b. to life new materials for future high temperature plants without the need for very protracted test programmes. This paper modifies the theta methodology so as to enable accurate estimates to be made, from short term data, of the failure time distribution at the proposed new operating conditions. Interest in the paper in the US resulted in an invitation to write a review article for a special issue of the Metallurgical and Materials Transactions (MMT) on Materials for Energy Applications (see output 20 for publication details of this prestigious review paper). |
