Abstract: |
The chapter is co-written with Professor Kathleen Marshall, formerly the first Scottish Commissioner for Chidlren and Young People. It is a contribution to an edited collection intended for students and professionals working in relation to children's services. The chapter describes the role and status of the four Children's Commmissioners within the UK. It shows how the potential for confusion generated by this split in responsibiltities is mitigated by close working relationships between the four offices. Each has an explicit link to the requirements of the UNCRc, though the nature of the link differs. Nonethelss the chapter shows how the UNCRC provides a focus for all four offices and thus contributes to substanital unity of purpose. |
