Item Description: This paper provides for the first time the exact solution for the phases of four optical waves interacting via the third order nonlinearity. The solution for the amplitudes had been known for several decades, but the problem of the phases remained open, until now. While this work is very fundamental, it is also very timely, as it can be used for studying the phase transfer characteristics of phase regenerators for optical communication, a topic which has been of great interest in the past few years.
