Item Description: Reports on collaboration between the Imperial College atomic physics and Southampton University microfabrication groups. A way of mass-producing very high finesse microscopic optical cavities on a silicon chip was invented and the resulting cavities characterised. I contributed significantly to the cavity concept, microfabrication and surface analysis, and to instrumentation.
