Item Description: This paper reports the formation of protein-quantum dot nanocomposites. The materials self assemble into a number of different structures depending on the assembly technique as well as the quantum dot coating. These highly elastic and biocompatible structures are currently being investigated as sensor systems. This work combined with that reported in another group paper (Romoser et al., 2011) resulted in an NSF research program with Prof. McShane to study energy transfer dynamics for encapsulated sensing systems. The work also resulted in a number of conference presentations.
