Item Description: This paper reports on the reconfiguration of an ultra long WDM system. This was the first result showing the full 40 channel ROADM capability of a 10Gb/s system. This work was led by Prof Doran and was an extension of the simple point-to-point capability of the ultra long system in 4 below. This approach used a wavelength blocker and identified the capability of traversing many (12) ROADMs with minimal signal degradation. This work was the first in what is now an extensively studied and deployed solution for reconfigurable optical networks.
