Item Description: |
This paper was a result of collaboration with Professor Kim at KIST in South Korea. Swansea provided the expertise in membrane technology to be able to grow this organism in carbon monoxide at very high concentrations. This organism not only suffers from substrate inhibition but also from end product inhibition, as such the membrane bioreactor configuration gave enhanced productivity. We were able to demonstrate a practical system for prolonged intensive transformations of CO at least a factor of 10 faster than conventional batch or continuous cultures. |
