This article is also an end product from the international collaboration with Brescia University. It provides theoretical and experimental evidence to explain the high sensitivity of gas sensing films made with 10nm SnO2 particles. These last two papers were crucial in my award of a Royal Society University Fellowship as they show that STM/STS can be successfully applied to non-standard scenario (i.e. not atomically clean, single crystal surfaces) to solve problems involving real working devices.
