Item Description:
The paper describes a implicit 3D finite element model for computing the interaction of mechanical, chemical and electrical effects in biological tissues. To our knowledge, it was the first model to implicitly incorporate all these effects and an important step in the research (J. Huyghe, j.m.r.huyghe@tue.nl) towards understanding the (swelling) behaviour of an intervertebral disc in a healthy or pathological (e.g. fractured) state.
