Peer led teaching (PLT) is a method whereby one group ofstudents is involved in the teaching of another (McKenna andFrench 2011). Whilst almost all universities worldwide offersome form of peer support for learning, the lack of availableliterature suggests that peer teaching is not well integratedinto pre-registration midwifery education. This articleexplores the experiences of both second- and third-yearstudent midwives involved in a peer teaching initiative aspart of preparation for an objective structured clinicalexamination (OSCE) assessment. Third year students acted aspeer teachers for small groups of second year studentslearning new practical skills related to the management ofmaternity emergencies. The findings of this evaluationsuggest significant benefits of PLT for both groups ofstudents. |
