Item Description: The article proposes a novel computational framework for constitutive modelling of arterial tissue. It introduces a new paradigm for constitutive description of complex heterogeneous bio-materials, which relies on physically based microstructural characterization of material constituents, rather than on widely employed empirical constitutive models. The research was undertaken in collaboration with Professor R. Feijoo, based in National Laboratory for Computational Mechanics, Brazil. The research was funded by EPSRC Grant (EP/D500281), and the main results were presented by Prof Peric in Plenary Lecture at the 9th International Conference on Computational Plasticity, Barcelona.
