Item Description: This paper formed part of the Marie-Curie Excellence grant on morphing aircraft (1.94M euros, 2005-2008) and provided a detailed analysis of the cool down and snap through behaviour of multistable composites. This led to a series of papers concerned with applications of multistable composites to aircraft applications, particularly wing tip devices. Multistable structures is one of the key structural concepts investigated in the ERC Advanced Investigator grant on morphing aircraft (2.5M euros, 2010-2015). Recent work has investigated a new control strategy based on resonant excitation on individual equilibrium configurations.
