Abstract: Provided by Engagement in Education, freeflowinfo is a means of reporting to and engaging parents and family members in the learning of their children. freeflowinfo allows students and/or school staff to produce video evidence of learning which is then shared with up to seven nominated adults; these adults can comment on the work, with the clear intention of making positive remarks to support learning. The project investigated how ffi was used by staff and parents, and the impacts its use has had on learning. Parental engagement in learning is known to be of great value, particularly for raising achievement and increasing engagement in learning, yet it is also well known that practice lags behind research in that support for parental engagement in learning is not as evident in school practice as it might be.When used in schools for young people with complex needs, parents were able to understand what their children were learning far better than with any previous interventions. When used in pupil referral units, the ap not only allowed parents to see direct evidence of their children’s learning, but allowed the young people to take that evidence with them on their return to mainstream education. School staff reported that the use of the ap had a beneficial effect on their workloads, reducing the amount of time needed for reporting to parents.
