The project investigated how ffi was used by staff and parents, and the impacts its use has had on learning. Parental engagement in learning is known to be of great value, particularly for raising achievement and increasing engagement in learning, yet it is also well known that practice lags behind research in that support for parental engagement in learning is not as evident in school practice as it might be.When used in schools for young people with complex needs, parents were able to understand what their children were learning far better than with any previous interventions. When used in pupil referral units, the ap not only allowed parents to see direct evidence of their children&#x2019;s learning, but allowed the young people to take that evidence with them on their return to mainstream education.
