Item Description: |
This paper reports on new findings about the change in the surface properties of ultralong ZnO nanowires when annealed in vacuum. These have implications for practical applications relying on surface reactivity, for example gas sensors. It is published in the best surface science specialist journal. In this paper we identify the temperatures required to remove water vapour and hydrocarbon contaminants but show that hydroxyl group remains bonded to the surface of the nanowires. We also show that surface water molecules act as donors and that their effect is reversible. |
