These have implications for practical applications relying on surface reactivity, for example gas sensors. It is published in the best surface science specialist journal. In this paper we identify the temperatures required to remove water vapour and hydrocarbon contaminants but show that hydroxyl group remains bonded to the surface of the nanowires.
