Abstract: |
This section begins with an introduction composed by Roberta Magnani, in response to—and in dialogue with—chapters by Meagan Khoury, Sophie Sexon, Lauren Cole and Hannah Johnson. This introduction emerges from Zoom conversations between Magnani and the contributors and situates these papers in the context of ongoing discussions about medieval embodiment, probing the tensions implicit in discourses of the body and gender expression in the Middle Ages. Rather than bodies existing in diametric duality (the standard binary), here, we demonstrate the ever-expansive boundary transgressions which construct an energetic continuum rather than two fixed poles. |
