We employ the concept of monetary interregnum to help situate cryptocurrencies in a crisis of financial hegemony, the spread of techno-libertarian ideology, and struggles over the future of money. In light of the growing body of research on cryptocurrencies, we argue for longer-term intellectual project focused on the relationship between money, space and ideology. We furthermore argue that conjunctural analysis is particularly well suited for this research given the convoluted and contradictory ideational spaces of cryptocurrencies.
