It reports the first use of a 'numerical wave flume', (ie. a numerical model simulating two-dimensional flow in a vertical plane), to investigate flooding due to overflow combined with wave action. The model was used to develop empirical discharge formulae; subsequently validated by laboratory experiments undertaken by the US Army Corps.
