Item Description: The principal objective was to develop an autoclavable pulsatile bioreactor capable of subjecting disc-shaped or trileaflet valve tissue constructs to prescribed, reproducible hydrodynamic profiles. The work shows a collaboration with one of the most well-known groups the Heart Science Centre in Harefield. It is a perfect example of where engineering, medicine and biology are merged. Sir Magdi Yacoub, who was one of first surgeons in the world to do a heart transplant operation and who is therefore well-known among many, is one of the co-authors of this paper.
