Abstract: During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns and social distancing measures put an end to the live music scene almost everywhere across the planet. The lack of live music venues and the ability to create virtual venues for ‘live’performance on VR platforms led to the emergence of spaces that could replace live performance. However, the use of VR to remediate live performance raises several questions about the nature of performance and its immediacy, presence for the audience at the performance. This chapter will investigate the possibility of an authentic experience of “being-there” in live performance in VR.
